Police are searching for a man suspected in the shooting death of another man in Muskegon early Saturday morning.

Police are asking the public not to approach the suspect and call 911 immediately. The suspect is possibly armed, police say.

The Muskegon River reached record-setting flood levels over the weekend. Rescue teams are surveying the water for dangerous debris and propane tanks.

The City of Muskegon said last year, dispatch received multiple calls from community members who thought the dredging equipment in the harbor was a capsized boat.

The body of a Muskegon-area man who was missing since last Thursday has been found, officials said. Michigan State Police said the 54-year-old man was reported missing from the Muskegon area on Sunday. Troopers from the state police's Grand Rapids Post began an investigation.

The man reportedly contacted family after his vehicle broke down and told them he was having difficulty breathing.

The Muskegon Police Department (MPD) is searching for a suspect after a 28-year-old died from a shooting early Saturday morning in Muskegon.

“This appeared to be an effort by Mr. McCrary to commit suicide or have an officer kind of commit suicide for him, as it’s often known suicide by cop, that type of situation,” Muskegon County Chief Trial Attorney Matt Roberts said of the case.
