If you’re still using an older Kindle, it may be time to double-check which model you have. Amazon has started notifying some users that support for certain Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets released in 2012 or earlier is coming to an end.
While you'll still be able to use your older Kindle after May 20, 2026, Amazon does include one important warning in its email: if you deregister or factory reset the device, you won't be able to register it again. So if you plan to keep reading on your older Kindle, it's best to avoid doing either.
